Education

Objective: GFWC wants to educate members and others about rates of low literacy and stimulate citizen action to address impact and concerns related to literacy in their "Focus on Literacy Program." It wants to promote a commitment to lifelong learning by encouraging members and others to foster and support educational opportunities in their communities in their "Education in the Community Program."

Our Education projects during the year have included:

Nancy Brown dresses as The Cat in the Hat to read to school children
Nancy also dresses as Sacajawea at the Dighton Art Festival, tells them about Indian customs, and shows them how to make "Talking Sticks."
Members bake goodies for our local libraries for Library Appreciation Week.
Members donate to the Friends of the Taunton Library and support their book sales.
Members support the local Literacy Council by attending their fundraisers.
Members participate in a monthly book swap at our meetings.
Members donate books to the Prison Book Program and help to select and mail books to prisoners.
Members collect "Box Tops for Education" to donate to local schools
